Rio Ferdinand has told BT Sport that he noticed Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho walking off with a ‘smirk’ on his face after their win over Fulham last night.

Tottenham may not have produced a vintage performance at Craven Cottage, but they still did enough to win the game 1-0.

The victory has pushed Spurs to within five points off the top four, with Mourinho’s side having a game in hand over many of the teams around them.

All of a sudden Tottenham have gone from a team who looked to be sliding down the table, to being one who could yet mount a challenge for a Champions League spot.

And Ferdinand thinks that Mourinho’s reaction at full-time showed that he is becoming more and more confident of success this season with Tottenham.

“What’s been a big thing is that they’ve been a team that has been kicked from pillar to post by pundits and the media because of the way they have played and the inconsistencies,” he said.

“Now they seem a team that’s got momentum. They will be looking above them saying that’s not out of reach. We have something to play for. Imagine if they win the cup final, the confidence that then flows through this team.

“I think Jose… we saw him walking off before, with a smirk on his face. There’s a change in the dynamics of the place at the moment.

“The players and the manager and the staff, trust me, they’ll be in there going – that’s one chalked off, three points, forget the performance. The most important thing is that we’ve got the three points job done.”

Tottenham actually do have another winnable looking game at the weekend, as they take on Crystal Palace.

If Spurs can make it three wins from three then it could yet be a transformative week for their campaign.

Tottenham are still in the League Cup and the Europa League and if they can make their way back into the top four fight, then Mourinho could yet mastermind his way to a brilliant campaign with the Lilywhites.
