Steven Gerrard has revealed to Sky Sports that he told his Rangers players that they would have to defend for periods against Celtic at Parkhead yesterday, as the Bhoys do have some good players.
Rangers may have dominated the Scottish Premiership this season, with Gerrard’s men sitting 20 points clear at the top of the table.
However, Gerrard warned his Rangers players that they were never going to have it all their own way against Celtic.
As it transpired, that was exactly the way the game panned out.
Celtic arguably had the bulk of the chances in the contest, but Rangers hung firm and protected their unbeaten record, as the sides played out a 1-1 draw.
Rangers weren’t at their very best in the contest, but Gerrard was still pleased with the resilience that his side showed.

“We said that to the players, when you come here you know Celtic are going to have periods of the game, they have good footballers and sometimes they can be hard to handle,” he said.
“Sometimes you have to suck that up, get on with it and realise that’s going to happen.
“But it’s important to stay in games and be resilient and restrict them if you can.
“They had a few opportunities today Celtic and played well at times, but over the course of the 90 minutes they still haven’t been able to beat us, which is a positive from my point of view.”
Gerrard actually admitted after the game that keeping Rangers’ unbeaten record in tact wasn’t right at the top of his priority list this term.
But seeing his side stop Celtic from beating them again would surely have put a smile on the face of the Rangers boss.
The Light Blues are next in action after the international break, when they take on Cove Rangers in the Scottish Cup.
