Former Arsenal left-back Kieran Gibbs has backed Manchester United’s Harry Maguire to secure a transfer to David Moyes’ West Ham United this summer.

Despite the stick Harry Maguire has gotten over the years and the decline in his game, Gibbs still thinks he is a ‘top, top player’, as he told ESPN.

Gibbs referenced an FA Cup game Arsenal played against then-Maguire’s Hull City and how he ‘loved’ him as a player then.

But fast forward to the present and the 30-year-old has taken some serious verbal hits playing on one of the biggest stages of football at Manchester United.

From Sheffield United to Leicester City, it all went well for the Englishman.

Gibbs pointed out how Maguire’s every movement at Old Trafford is being scanned, but if he moves to West Ham, then that won’t happen.

“No-one wants to see that (Maguire stick and decline during last few years),” said Gibbs. “He’s such a good guy, Harry. I think it’s time for him to try and revive himself. I think he deserves that.

“He is still, in my opinion, a top, top player. I loved him when he was at Hull City. Loved him. We played against him in an FA Cup game and I said ‘he is going to be a top player’.

“He is at one of the biggest clubs in the world, so his room for error is so small right now, whereas, if he goes to West Ham, with due respect, you’re not playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world.”

Will West Ham bid again for Maguire?

It has been well-reported that a fee of £20 million has been rejected by Manchester United from West Ham for their recently-stripped captain.

Given that close to £100 million was paid for his talents, then it’s no surprise that Manchester United are trying to recoup as much money as they can.

But, they also need to be realistic and understand that they have to bite the bullet here and take a huge loss on the player.
