Virgil van Dijk has started the season in brilliant fashion, and the Liverpool star now has his first goal of the campaign after finding the back of the net for Holland.
The Netherlands captain opened the scoring for Louis van Gaal’s side as the European powerhouses breezed past Gibraltar in a 6-0 win for the Dutch. The result put Holland clear of Group G for FIFA World Cup qualifying.
It was a great occasion for Van Dijk, as the Liverpool star bagged his first goal for Holland in over two years. With the defender missing Euro 2020 due to injury, the Netherlands have missed the Liverpool centre-back’s presence.
Indeed, with the likes of Memphis Depay and reported Liverpool target Arnaut Danjuma adding their names to the scoresheet, the Dutch have some serious talent on their books heading into Qatar 2022.
And for Van Dijk, having him in the form he’s in could make Holland one of the favourites for the competition, especially with the defender now bagging his first goal since 2019.
The defender has come up a few times over the years with important goals for Liverpool. And Van Dijk now appears to be replicating this trait for the national team.
