Lee Dixon told Premier League Productions during their live coverage of Arsenal’s draw at Burnley that he ‘need to see more’ of Gabriel Martinelli.

Once again, Mikel Arteta left the 19-year-old on the bench and opted against bringing him on as Arsenal shot themselves in the foot and recorded a point at Turf Moor on Saturday.

During Arsenal’s win at Leicester last week, Arteta made changes to his side before doing the same yesterday, yet no room for Martinelli in the starting XI or minutes from the bench.

Things aren’t going as swimmingly as Martinelli would have liked since his return from a long-term injury and Highbury legend Dixon wants to see him on the pitch more.

“We talked before we came on air about Martinelli,” said Dixon. “You would like to see Martinelli maybe.

“If he’s using the games just to give players some time on the pitch and get them used to playing a little bit then Martinelli we need to see more of him.

“Obviously, Aubameyang is trying to keep his goals going and trying to keep him in the confident mode because he needs to be in that if Arsenal are going to do anything in the Europa League then he needs to be scoring because they don’t score many goals from elsewhere.”

Before Martinelli was injured, he was fast becoming one of Arsenal’s key players, alongside the then free-scoring Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

And whilst Arsenal’s main goal threat hasn’t hit the heights of the previous campaign, he is still plugging away and starting to become efficient during this crucial period.

Martinelli, on the other hand, is still watching from the bench and hoping he can start to show off his skills which fans are eager to see.
