Ben Davies withdrew from the Wales squad for their latest games last week through illness, but an image of the Tottenham Hotspur ace in training has caught some fans’ attention.

Spurs uploaded a raft of images from Thursday’s training session on the club’s website as they prepare to face Newcastle. The north Londoners travel to Tyneside on Sunday seeking to claim back-to-back league wins for the first time since August.

Nuno Espirito Santo snapped a three-game losing streak prior to the international break with a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa. Tottenham had lost each of their three top-flight fixtures through September, having started the season with three-straight wins.

Davies did not feature in Nuno’s matchday squad against Aston Villa as the Tottenham left-back recovered from an appendix issue. He then joined up with the Wales squad for their World Cup qualifiers, but withdrew last Wednesday citing an illness.

“[Davies] has a problem on an inflammation on his appendix,” Nuno told football.london earlier this month. “He has been taken care of, he has had some scans, but he was not able to play [against Mura], he was in pain. We wish that he recovers soon, and he can join us.”

Davies appears to have overcome his appendix issue and illness after featuring in images from Tottenham’s latest training sessions. He will hope to now build enough fitness before Spurs travel to Newcastle with a view to playing on Sunday.

But while some Tottenham fans were glad to see Davies back in training, not all want him to feature. Nuno has only awarded the 28-year-old 30-minutes of Premier League football so far this season. He made his sole appearance of the term in defeat to Crystal Palace.

Nuno also only introduced Davies at Selhurst Park following Japhet Tanganga’s red card for two yellow card offences. The £60k-a-week full-back has mostly featured in the Europa Conference League so far this term. He started both of Spurs’ qualifying ties with Pacos de Ferreira and opening group stage fixture at Stade Rennes.

So, here are some of the messages Tottenham fans have shared on Davies in training…
