Jose Enrique has urged Liverpool to ‘do the same’ and sign midfielder(s) during the January transfer window after Chelsea secured a deal for RB Leipzig forward, Christopher Nkunku.

The former left-back added on Instagram that it’s ‘incredible’ that Chelsea needs a forward player and they go and get one, with the winter transfer window around the corner.

For Graham Potter and Co, needing that goalscorer, amongst other issues, is at the top of their must-do list, whilst for Jurgen Klopp, it’s refreshing his now stale and slower-to-respond midfield.

But whilst names get thrown about for Liverpool, those at Stamford Bridge have seemingly done their job and brought goalscoring machine Nkunku to the Premier League, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that a ‘long-term deal has been agreed from June 2023’, as he posted on Twitter.

Liverpool can’t wait that long and they need to add new faces to their squad in January, as Enrique is hoping more than one player is brought in.

“It’s incredible, they need a striker and go for a striker,” said Enrique. “Hopefully, we do the same with the midfield. We need more than one (in January) and more in the summer.”

NKUNKU WAS WANTED BY LIVERPOOL

With 17 goals from 23 games in all competitions this season, Nkunku just can’t stop himself from cooking in front of goal.

Last season, he netted 35 and assisted 20, including scoring seven in the Champions League, which resulted in the likes of Liverpool showing interest in the player.

But it’s Chelsea, who spent well over £200 million last summer, that have won that battle, with new owner Todd Boehly looking to make his mark after replacing Roman Abramovich as the club owner at the start of the year.
