The Tottenham Hotspur boss has maintained the club’s desire to challenge for the largest honours, while conceding they cannot spend huge sums.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino is set discuss his future with chairman Daniel Levy and now claims the club must take risks to reach the next level, in comments published by Football.London.

Spurs triumphed over Leicester City in a topsy-turvy 5-4 thriller at Wembley on Sunday, securing a third successive finish in the top three and immediate qualification for the Champions League. However, the club have yet to win a trophy during the Argentine’s tenure, with the last piece of silverware – the League Cup – being lifted back in 2008.

The lack of trophies at White Hart Lane is often attributed to Tottenham’s inability to financially match the level of their competitors at the pinnacle of the Premier League, with Levy frequently coming under scrutiny in his time with the club.

And once again, despite spending £184million on players in the past two seasons, they have spent less than Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool over the same period of time.

Pochettino has called for change though, and suggests that Spurs must work harder than the previous season to be competitive again.

Daniel Levy (R) looks on during the Premier League match between West Bromwich Albion and Tottenham Hotspur at The Hawthorns on October 15, 2016 in West Bromwich, England.

However, the 46-year-old maintains that the majority of planning will be handled by the chairman, similarly to previous years.

“It is a little bit up to Daniel of course, to the club, to be happy with us, because after four years I think we need to assess that period,” the Spurs boss told Football.London.

“I think Daniel is going to listen to me. But you know me and sometimes I have some crazy ideas. In this type of situation, with a club with our unbelievable fans, being brave is the most important, and to take risks.”
