John Terry has astonishingly claimed that he would have substituted Harry Kane during England’s Euro 2020 final defeat to Italy and he would be doing just that with the Tottenham Hotspur striker at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, as he told beIN SPORTS (20/11/22 at 6:50 pm).

The Chelsea legend added that England manager Gareth Southgate would have ‘assessed that’ situation from Euro 2020 and he thinks Kane will be subbed off in Qatar, something which doesn’t usually happen, as the Three Lions take on Iran on Monday.

With the captain’s armband strapped to him, Kane will lead the line for his country as they look to take charge of Group B, with Wales and USA locking horns later on in the day.

This will be England’s first tournament game since their penalty heartache against Italy back in Wembley, in which Kane started, and despite his side taking the lead, they couldn’t get over the line.

Well, Southgate was blamed for not being pro-active or attack-minded enough back then, but Terry thinks he will have learned that lesson and he will show that by how he uses Kane during this tournament.

“That was my big disappointment with the Euros,” said Terry speaking from Qatar. “I was at the game watching the final. Chiellini and Bonucci got booked.

“I am going ‘a big decision needed to be made at that point’. There was 20-25 minutes to go. Take your main man. Take your captain off. Put pace up front. Cause huge problems for the two defenders, who are on yellow cards and be a little bit more direct. I didn’t see it, so I think that’s one criticism.

“But I love Gareth. I love what he is doing, both on and off the pitch. I think he would have assessed that. I think we might see Harry (Kane) come off in certain games throughout this tournament. In the later stages.”

HARRY KANE PUSHING FOR GOLDEN BOOT…#2

No man in history has won back-to-back Golden Boot honours, but Kane stands in the searing heat of Qatar knowing he can write his name into the history books.

In terms of Premier League form, only a certain Erling Haaland is performing better than the Tottenham striker.

The Manchester City summer signing has a remarkable 18 goals from his 13 Premier League games, and whilst that’s for an attack-minded team and for the champions of England.

Kane has 12 in 15 for a defensively set-up Spurs side trying to secure a trophy under the highly-demanding Antonio Conte.
