Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to react after Frédéric Guilbert posted a tweet upon his return to the Midlands.

What’s the story?

Well, Guilbert – who cost £5 million – spent the 2020/21 season on loan at RC Strasbourg, following an impressive debut season at Villa Park.

It felt strange to see him leave.

The 26-year-old did well in his debut season at Villa Park, but was then replaced by Matty Cash, who arrived for £16 million.

Admittedly, Guilbert struggled with injuries during the first half of the 2020/21 campaign.

However, we feel the Villans should’ve kept him around to compete with Cash, instead of allowing Ahmed Elmohamady to be his understudy.

Clearly, the Aston Villa fans below also felt it was an odd decision by Dean Smith to allow the right-back to leave.

One fan below said it was a ‘massive, massive mistake’ to send Guilbert away from Villa Park on loan.

That particular tweet was met with plenty of similar responses, as fans aimed to let the defender know he is valued by the supporters.

Guilbert may not have felt of much value to Smith after being loaned out.

However, it’s good to see the fans rally around him and attempt to make him feel wanted in the Midlands.

Let’s see what the Aston Villa fans on Twitter have been saying…
