Mikel Arteta has stated that Arsenal know ‘how tough’ their midweek tie against Liverpool will be, as he told Sky Sports.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool picked up maximum points over the weekend – beating Leicester City and Brighton, respectively.

For the Gunners, it was another step towards Champions League football, whilst Liverpool are gunning down Manchester City in the Premier League title race.

What helps the Reds even further is that if they win at the Emirates, then they will close the gap at the top to one point, after Man City dropped points at Crystal Palace on Monday night.

But, of course, Arteta and his players will have other ideas when Jurgen Klopp and co. come to town, as he sent this message ahead of the game.

“We have put ourselves in a very good position (for top-four),” said Arteta. “But there is still a lot to fight for.

“Now it’s Liverpool and we know how tough it’s going to be. And we have to prepare the game to win it.”

During the reverse fixture at Anfield, both Klopp and Arteta were involved in a heated moment on the touchline that then turned the game towards Liverpool’s direction.

Given the strong form the north London side are in, there is no doubt that their fans will be well up for it on Wednesday night.

So, whilst it was hostile for the Arsenal players over on Merseyside, they will be hoping to return that favour tomorrow night.

Although, many will still back Liverpool for the win because of their current standing, attacking threat and stronger form, but if Arteta can mastermind his side to three points, then it would be a serious statement of intent.
