James Ward-Prowse has stated that Leeds United’s atmosphere at Elland Road was ‘incredible’ on Saturday, as he told BBC Sport.
The England midfielder added that his Southampton side knew that Leeds had ‘resurgence’ and ‘momentum’ under their new coach Jesse Marsch before their 1-1 draw.
The Whites went into yesterday’s game on the back of a stunning 3-2 win at Wolves before the international break, which saw them come from 2-0 down to secure all three points in stoppage-time.
But in Yorkshire, it was Ward-Prowse’s stunning free-kick that meant they had to settle for a point apiece.
After the game, the set-piece specialist shared his thoughts on Marsch’s side and the noise created by the home crowd.
“We knew of the resurgence of Leeds under their new manager,” said Ward-Prowse. “And the momentum that they had. We knew it would be a tough test.
“I think we dug deep in the second half. The crowd and atmosphere here is incredible.
“They get right behind their team and make it difficult. We got a deserved point, I feel.”

There probably isn’t a better free-kick taker in world football than Ward-Prowse, in fact, there isn’t at all.
It’s such a weapon that the quality in itself could get the Saints academy product on the plane to Qatar for the 2022 World Cup in November.
The 27-year-old has many other attributes, such as the aggression and intelligence in which he presses without the ball.
His ability to play box-to-box, in a two-man midfield, how he doesn’t waste possession and the engine he has in his locker.
All in all, the Englishman is an outstanding talent and fast-improving and becoming an underrated figure in England’s top flight.
