Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins has told Sky Sports, during their live Premier League coverage, that his side set up to stop Arsenal passing through midfield on Sunday evening.
Watkins helped Villa to a 3-0 win over Arsenal at the weekend, with the claret and blues ultimately dominating the contest.
Arsenal just could not break them down, as Villa created chance after chance against Mikel Arteta’s men.
And Watkins has suggested that Villa were always planning to shut Arsenal down in the middle of the pitch.
“It’s a good three points here against a good side at the Emirates. We knew they would pass and move it and we had to cut off the lines in midfield and I felt we did that and it gave us freedom to go and play,” the forward said.
“We’ve conceded a few goals the last couple of games and it’s how you bounce back and we’ve done that.”
Villa boss Dean Smith’s set-up certainly worked perfectly, as Villa put in one of their best performances of the season.
Villa look a huge attacking threat this term, and have now scored 10 goals in games against Arsenal and Liverpool.
Watkins, himself, was on the scoresheet twice at the Emirates Stadium, as he continued his fine scoring form.
Villa have now moved into sixth place in the Premier League table, while Arsenal, disappointingly, occupy 11th spot.
