Bruno Fernandes has admitted that Manchester United have to be ‘worried’ about Tottenham and Arsenal coming behind them in the top four race, as he told Premier League Productions (20/02/22 at 7:10 pm).

But the Manchester United playmaker added that his side’s aim is to be ‘looking forward’ and trying to catch third-placed Chelsea in the table.

After Man United’s 4-2 win over Leeds United on Sunday, they opened up a bit of a gap in fourth, even though they have played extra games than those below them.

Fifth-placed West Ham are four points behind them in the table, whilst Arsenal are one place below, but they have three games in hand.

Then there is seventh-placed Wolves on 40 points and six behind Man United, whilst eigth-placed Spurs also have three games in hand, but they are seven points behind.

Nonetheless, when Fernandes was asked about Arsenal and Spurs winning behind them, this is what he had to say in response.

“We are looking forward,” said Fernandes. “We want to catch those that are in front of us (Chelsea).

“Obviously, we have to be worried about who comes behind us. But our goal always has to be to go forward.

“Forward is to look at third place and try to catch Chelsea. I know they are far, but nothing is impossible. When I arrive here at the club, we were 12 points behind third place and we did that, so why not?”

On paper, Man United have the best squad and they should be the ones in the driving seat if they want to secure Champions League football.

But, at the end of the day, it’s the likes of Wolves and Arsenal who have the best defence during these crunch moments.

Then there is Spurs, who probably have the best manager and man-motivator in Antonio Conte.

Either way, just like last season, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the top-four race goes down to the final day of the season.
