Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers haven’t been using Lee Wallace this season.

Steven Gerrard has told Rangers’ AGM, via The Record, that although Lee Wallace is in his plans, he has better options than the Scottish left-back.

The 31-year-old defender has played less than a minute of first-team football this season, after coming on as an injury-time substitute against Motherwell in August.

Wallace, suspended by Rangers in April following a bust-up with then-manager Graeme Murty, hasn’t been named in a Premiership squad since the 3-3 draw at Fir Park.

Gerrard has Jon Flanagan and Borna Barisic as left-back options, while Andy Halliday has also been used there.

The former Liverpool midfielder told the Gers’ AGM, via The Record, when it was put to him that Wallace – who arrived at Ibrox in 2011 – had been treated very badly.

“Lee Wallace was out injured when I came in and had missed 12 months before then. I pay tribute to how Lee has gone about his business when he has been injured.

“To be candid, as long as he’s here he remains part of my plans and he trains with us but I believe we have better options in that position at the moment.”

It is perhaps testament to how strong the Rangers squad is that Gerrard doesn’t need Wallace, who is a vastly experienced figure.

His long-term prospects at Ibrox seem very bleak, it must be said.

If the 38-year-old fancied Wallace to be a big player this season then over £2 million wouldn’t have been spent on Barisic, who is injured at the moment.

The former Scotland international joined the Glasgow giants from Hearts over seven years ago.
