Jeff Stelling praised Curtis Jones for showing ‘how good he can be’ during Liverpool’s last two fixtures, as he told Soccer Saturday (02/10/21 at 1:50 pm).

The Sky presenter shared that Jones was ‘almost a forgotten man’ prior to Liverpool’s 3-3 draw against Brentford last week and their thumping win against Porto in the Champions League.

Jones scored during the six-goal thriller at Brentford and then supplied three assists in Portugal as Liverpool put five past Porto.

Slowly but surely, Jones is becoming a key figure on Merseyside and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he is full-blown first-teamer within 18 months.

Added with that, Sky presenter Stelling also claimed that sometimes ‘we forget’ just how young the 20-year-old is because it seems as though he has been around ‘for some while’.

“It’s quite interesting that Curtis Jones was almost a forgotten man at Liverpool,” said Merson. “He hadn’t start a Premier League game this season.

“Then he started against Brentford and he started against Porto. And boy did he show how good he can be.

“He is just 20-years-old and we forget that sometimes because he has been around for some while.”

Jones can take his reputation to the next level on Sunday afternoon when the Reds host the champions of the Premier League at Anfield.

There shouldn’t be a reason why he shouldn’t start, and if he does, then he will face a Man City side that have been outstanding during these past few week.

Man City’s 1-0 win at Chelsea last Saturday was a statement of intent to their rivals and they will be looking to make another mark this afternoon.

But, Jurgen Klopp will be clearly sending out the message that his side should stick their own chest out and remind others that they are still here.

Both Manchester clubs and Chelsea have been talked about a lot more than Liverpool since the start of the season.

But pound-for-pound, Klopp could argue his XI is stronger than any other team out there.
