Benik Afobe has impressed since his return to Wolverhampton Wanderers in January.
Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland spoke to reporters about his former England under-17 teammate Benik Afobe today, and predicted that the Wolves hitman will turn out to be an excellent signing for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, as quoted by the Express & Star.
The 25-year-old joined the Black Country outfit from Bournemouth on loan in January, and has gone on to score four goals in nine appearances thus far, with seven of those coming from the substitutes bench.
Afobe spent a successful spell with Wolves two years ago, before joining the Cherries in a deal believed to be worth in the region of £10 million.
Wolves fans will be hoping that the striker can fire them to the Championship title this season.
Butland raved about the quality of Afobe, when speaking to reporters, sharing how he always used to fear coming up against the lively front-man, as quoted by the Express & Star:
“I thought he deserved more and he played well but now he is back at Wolves he has re-discovered the form he had first time round so it is great to see him doing the business. He is a great player and will score lots of goals. At Bournemouth it was tough and maybe he got crowded out because there was big competition for places but he has stuck at it and worked hard. When he was in the under-17s, we feared him. He was on the books at Arsenal and whenever we played them, he was the one we looked out for and feared. He was that good.”
Whether Wolves manage to turn Afobe’s loan deal into a permanent one remains to be seen, but if he continues his fine run of form, he will do his chances of remaining at Molineux the world of good.
