Rob Dorsett has claimed that he expects the rest of Dean Smith’s backroom staff to leave Aston Villa following Steven Gerrard’s arrival, as he told Sky Sports News.

The Sky reporter also added that he expects the rest of Gerrard’s backroom staff from Rangers to join the former midfielder at Villa Park.

In some cases, certain backroom members from previous tenures do stay on, even though a new coach has come through the door.

The prime example is Eddie Howe at Newcastle, where Graeme Jones, who was Steve Bruce’s assistant, has stayed put.

But it seems as though new summer arrival Aaron Danks, goalkeeping coach Neil Cutlter and set-piece coach Austin MacPhee will now head for the exit door.

As soon as Smith was sacked, Craig Shakespeare followed suit and Dorsett shared an update on both the old coaching staff and the new ones set to arrive.

“We expect that compensation package to include Gary McAllister,” said Dorsett. “And we expect the negotiations to continue today for the rest of Steven Gerrard’s backroom staff.

“We fully expect the rest of his backroom staff that he had at Rangers to join him at Villa Park. That means, the rest of Dean Smith’s backroom staff, of course, we heard Craig Shakspehre left the club on Monday.

“But other members of Dean Smith’s coaching staff were still employed by the football club, in case Villa couldn’t get a manager in place before their next Premier League game against Brighton.

“So, expect the rest of Smith’s backroom staff to leave the club in due course and be replaced by Gerrard’s backroom staff.”

A number of the Villa coaching team that might now end up leaving weren’t part of Smith’s set-up when he first arrived.

John Terry and Richard O’Kelly were the gems of Smith’s coaching set-up from their Championship days, but both of them left in the summer.

That clearly played its part out on the training pitch, as Villa well and truly lost their style, along with the results going pear-shaped.

But now Gerrard and his coaching team will be tasked with getting this Villa team back on their feet because they have lost five games on the bounce.
