PSV Eindhoven are expecting to see Noni Madueke stay at the Eredivisie giants despite interest from Leeds United and Leicester City, technical director John de Jong told Voetbal International.
The former Tottenham starlet might have burst onto the scene in Dutch football this season, producing a handful of dazzling performances in red and white, but there is certainly a lot more to come.
Remarkably enough, Madueke has actually scored more goals (seven) than he has started games (six) in Holland’s top flight under Roger Schmidt.
And while PSV have a proven track record when it comes to selling their most promising youngsters, from Memphis Depay to Gini Wijnaldum, there is a feeling at the Phillips Stadium that Madueke is not yet ready to graduate from the esteemed finishing school that is the Eredivisie.
“He has undeniably grown this season. And the chance that he will play even more next season is, of course, very high,” said De Jong, who points out that Madueke has found game-time hard to come by since the likes of Cody Gakpo and Mario Gotze have returned from injury.
“We are very happy and satisfied with Noni and we expect to see him shine in the first next season. He can become a very important player in the battle for the title at PSV.”
The Mail reported last week that Brendan Rodgers is keen to take the £15 million-rated Madueke to Leicester, having tried and failed to sign the fleet-footed England U21 international during his time in charge of Celtic.
Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds side made contact with Madueke in March, according to the Standard.
Crystal Palace and Bayern Munich are interested too, with the Bundesliga giants determined to unearth their very own Jadon Sancho.
It seems, though, that speculation surrounding Madueke’s future can be placed on the backburner until 2022.
