Reports that former Chelsea and West Ham United star Frank Lampard could be set to join Championship leaders Brighton and Hove Albion has been met with mixed reaction.

The 38-year-old Blues legend is currently without a club after leaving MLS outfit New York City in November.

But he could well be back playing in England with the Seagulls as they bid for promotion to the Premier League, according to reports in the likes of The Sun.

Bookmakers have Lampard at 5/2 to link up with Chris Hughton at the Amex Stadium, but reports suggest they could face stiff competition from arch rivals Crystal Palace.

Lampard scored a goal every other game in the MLS and has valuable experience which could help Brighton seal promotion having won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, a Champions League and 106 England caps during his career.

Lampard shot to prominence in the Premier League with West Ham, where his dad Frank Senior is a legend.

His son went on to eclipse his career, though, scoring 273 goals in 913 games.

The former Hammers midfielder still divides opinion among the fans of his boyhood club.

And talk of his potential signing has divided Brighton fans too with supporters reactions varying on Twitter.
