Well, it’s taken over a year but Laurent Koscielny has finally apologised to Arsenal fans.
The France international spent nine years at the Emirates Stadium but was sold last August during Raul Sanllehi’s reign of handling transfer-related affairs, before Edu took over from the Spaniard this summer.
But Koscielny, who made 255 Premier League appearances for Arsenal, incurred the wrath of the North London club’s fans during his unveiling for the Ligue 1 side.
The 35-year-old defender was filmed wearing a Gunners shirt, before taking it off to reveal a Bordeaux one.
And speaking to Telefoot on Thursday night, Koscielny said: “I had 9 incredible years there, lots of memories with this club. I know that my announcement video at Bordeaux caused a bit of a stir, I want to apologise to the fans for that, I didn’t expect it to affect them in the way that it did.”
They say that time is a great healer, but a lot of Arsenal fans on Twitter aren’t accepting his apology.
Here’s how some fans responded to Koscielny’s comments:
In addition to that kit stunt, Koscielny also refused to go on Arsenal’s pre-season tour of the United States last summer.
According to BBC Sport, a furious Sanllehi later warned the player that he was in breach of his contract by refusing to go.
Koscielny was one of the most important players during Arsene Wenger’s stint in North London and won three FA Cups under the veteran manager.
