Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher will make mistakes.
The Liverpool legend has pointed at the fact that Kelleher is only 22 years of age and is very inexperienced.
Lawrenson has suggested that if the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international goalkeeper keeps his pace between the posts this weekend, then Fulham will have a chance of scoring, but he does expect the defending Premier League champions to win match 2-0.
Fulham will take on Liverpool at Craven Cottage in London in the Premier League on Sunday evening.
Lawrenson has told BBC Sport: “Fulham might feel like they can get at Liverpool, especially if Caoimhin Kelleher is still filling in for Alisson in goal, and the Cottagers have got the option of recalling Aleksandar Mitrovic if they want to be more direct and try to test the 22-year-old Irishman with some balls into the box.
“Kelleher has done really well so far and looks the part, but he is going to make a mistake at some point – I certainly don’t wish it on him, but all young keepers do – and we don’t know how he will react.
“What we do know, though, is how good Liverpool’s frontline is. They always come up trumps and I don’t think Fulham will keep them out.”
Staying positive
As harsh as Lawrenson’s comments about Kelleher might seem, the Liverpool legend does have a point.
Described by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp as “a sensationally talented goalie” on the club’s official website earlier this month, the 22-year-old goalkeeper has made one appearance in the Premier League and two in the Champions League so far this season, according to WhoScored.
Alisson is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and his importance in the team cannot be undermined, but Liverpool fans should have faith in Kelleher.
