Ange Postecoglou is reportedly keen on the Rangers manager’s job following Pedro Caixinha’s departure from Ibrox.
Rangers fans can be forgiven for not knowing a great deal about Ange Postecoglou.
But a man with strong Rangers connections certainly does, having shared an interesting relationship with the 52-year-old boss who, according to ESPN, is keen on the Ibrox reins. It did not, however, get off to the best of starts.
Indeed, it is Postecoglou’s 2009 appointment by Brisbane Roar which is said to have catalysed the exit of then captain Craig Moore – the Australian defender who spent 11 years on Rangers’ books, across two spells.
Speaking to the Adelaide Advertiser in 2013, Moore explained: “It’s no secret that we didn’t always see eye-to-eye during the period he [Postecoglou] was Brisbane’s coach and I was the Roar’s captain. But that’s in the past and we’ve spoken many times since.”
Lo and behold, Moore was appointed to Postecoglou’s staff for the following year’s World Cup campaign, as well as the 2015 Asia Cup, which Australia won.
And when it was suggested last month the Socceroos coach could leave his post before the end of his contract next week, with a World Cup play-off still to come against Honduras, Moore was one of those who leapt to his defence.
“I’m a big supporter of Ange and everything he’s done for the national team and Australian football in general,” he told Omnisport, via Goal.
It would be little surprise, therefore, if Postecoglou has sounded out Moore about Rangers, although whether or not he’d be considered by the Scottish giants remains to be seen.
And despite reports linking him with Rangers’ director of football role at the start of this year, it is unlikely that Moore would follow his old boss in any case, after Mark Allen’s appointment in June.
