According to TeamTalk, Newcastle United are interested in signing Dele Alli from Tottenham Hotspur in January.
Alli is reportedly keen to leave Spurs, and the club are open to letting him go, so, it seems that Newcastle could get this one over the line if they cough up the cash.
If the Magpies do land Alli, then we’re sure that Eddie Howe would be absolutely delighted. After all, the gaffer has previously admitted that he’s looked at signing Alli twice.
What’s Howe said about Alli?
Howe spoke to The Mirror back in 2017 about trying to sign Alli for both Bournemouth and Burnley.
“He arrives late in the box, scores all manner of goals from distance, close range and with his head,” said Howe
“It’s good to see us produce a player of this type in this country.
“We did look at him, but at that time we felt he was beyond us-money wise and probably club wise with the level we were at.
“We [Bournemouth] were Championship at the time, and we talked about him when we were at Burnley [Howe managed the Clarets from January 2011 to October 2012] as well, but he had gone beyond us quite quickly.”

Almost a decade after Howe tried to sign Alli, it seems as though the Newcastle manager may be about to get his man.
However, rather than landing a teenage prodigy, Howe will be getting a player who has lost his way a little bit in recent weeks who needs plenty of coaching and guidance.
The Tottenham man has all of the talent in the world, but, he’s not been himself as of late.
