Some Arsenal fans on social media have been airing their frustrations after hearing the rumours that Ainsley Maitland-Niles could be headed to Atletico Madrid on loan in January.

Arsenal and Atletico have been doing plenty of business with each other lately, with Lucas Torreira and Thomas Partey both swapping London for Madrid and vice versa in the summer.

Maitland-Niles could head to the La Liga outfit on loan, but fans quite clearly don’t want to see him depart in January, and if we’re being honest, it’d be a bit foolish to weaken the squad, especially when the Gunners are in such a precarious position just above the relegation zone.

Indeed, there has been very little to be cheerful about at the Emirates this season, but Maitland-Niles has clearly been a bright spark in some fans’ eyes.

Whether or not this deal gets done remains to be seen, but it is worth noting that they will be needing a player who can play right-back after Kieran Trippier was handed a 10 week ban this week.

Of course, the window isn’t even open yet, so we don’t know if this move will come to fruition, but it would certainly make sense for Diego Simeone’s side to pursue a move for the England international.

This is certainly one to keep an eye on, and if he does end up leaving, we can only imagine that a number of Gunners supporters will be far from happy.

Here’s what the Emirates faithful have been saying on social media…
