Speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, West Ham star Michail Antonio has admitted that the Hammers need to sign a striker.
West Ham are flying in the Premier League right now, but it has to be said, they are lacking depth up front.
Indeed, ever since selling Sebastien Haller this time last year, West Ham have solely been relying on Antonio to spearhead their attack.
Now, with the London club looking to mount a top-four push, Antonio has claimed that David Moyes’ side need to add another number nine to their squad.
What’s Antonio said?
Antonio spoke about West Ham needing to sign a new striker.
“That’s the situation. One thing that we definitely need is a striker, and I’m the striker, so somebody is going to come in and try to take my spot. I like a challenge, I like having someone pushing me, even if they take my spot, I believe I can get it back, it gives me that hunger and that drive. It makes me play better because I need to play well to stay in the team,” Antonio said.

He’s not wrong
Michail Antonio certainly isn’t wrong about West Ham needing a striker, and luckily, it seems as though the Hammers may soon spring into action.
Indeed, they’ve been linked with a number of new centre-forwards, including Brazilian star Gabriel Barbosa, so it looks as though there could well be some movement on that front in the coming weeks.
It remains to be seen who is signed, but it sounds as though Antonio is relishing the challenge of having some competition up top.
