When fit, there are few better strikers in the Championship than Britt Assombalonga.

Nottingham Forest striker Nicklas Bentdner believes he and Britt Assombalonga can be a ‘real force’ in the Championship, as reported by the Nottingham Post.

The former Arsenal youngster has been out of action for a number of weeks since injuring his ankle in Forest’s 3-1 win against Birmingham, but is insists he is making good progress in his recovery and will be ready for a first-team return in the next few matchdays.

And Bendtner, who is itching to return before next month’s clash against East Midlands rivals Derby, believes his prospective partnership with fellow injury-stricken centre-forward Assombalonga could blow opponents away in the second tier.

“I heard a lot about him before I got here, but I still haven’t had the chance to play with him or even to train,” the 28-year-old told the Nottingham Post.

“When I got here he was injured and when he came back, I was out. As I said before, it will be great when we have a full squad to choose from.

“I have said before that, when I am fit, I am looking forward to playing with him. I think we could be a real force together.”

Assombalonga enjoyed a goal-laden start to his Forest career after arriving from Peterborough United for a club-record £5.5 million fee in the summer of 2014, as reported by the BBC, but a horrendous knee injury halfway through his first season at the City Ground put him on the sidelines for over a year.

However, the 23-year-old is slowly regaining full fitness at last, having scored four times in just three Championship starts this season, with his pace and power making him one of the most fearsome forwards in the division.
