It has been three weeks since the news broke about Ibrahima Konate’s potential move to Liverpool from Red Bull Leipzig this summer.
According to The Athletic in late March, Liverpool are close to finalising a deal to bring the big centre-back to Anfield between now and the start of next season.
But that report broke on March 28 and there still isn’t any concrete news of the 21-year-old French powerhouse joining Jurgen Klopp’s side.
That being said, some Liverpool fans have welcomed him to the club nonetheless.
Konate, who has a £35 million release clause, played for the German outfit in a 0-0 draw at home to Hoffenheim on Friday night.
On Saturday, he posted a three-word message on Twitter that read: “About last night.”
And here’s how some Liverpool fans have responded to the player’s tweet on social media:
Whether it’s Konate or not, Klopp needs new central defenders during the summer.
The Merseysiders aren’t going to win any trophies this season and it’s mainly because of how much they have struggled without injured trio Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, the first two of which haven’t played since October.
Considering how influential Van Dijk and Gomez were in helping Liverpool to the Premier League title last season, their absence is undeniably linked to the fact Klopp’s side are 22 points behind leaders Manchester City this time around.
