Manchester City travel to RB Leipzig tomorrow in what is essentially a dead rubber fixture for Pep Guardiola’s side. Yet there will now be some extra narrative following a huge breaking story over the weekend.

As per the club’s official website, Leipzig on Sunday took the decision to sack head coach Jesse Marsch after a terrible run of form. The American manager only joined the club in the summer after impressing with sister side RB Salzburg.

Indeed, the news came as a surprise to many given the culture around sacking managers in Germany as well as the context of Leipzig’s summer which saw three key players leave the club.

However, the decision was made, and City will now face off against a managerless Leipzig side in Germany tomorrow. And this could present the Manchester giants with some opportunities.

Indeed, with City already confirmed group winners, squad rotation against Leipzig will be crucial for the club given the winter fixtures. And the dead rubber could give some players a chance to impress Guardiola.

The likes of Zack Steffen, James McAtee and Cole Palmer can claim more important first-team minutes. Whilst the likes of Joao Cancelo, Bernardo Silva and Raheem Sterling can have a rest.

As you can expect, City fans on social media are over the moon about the news coming out of Leipzig this weekend, with supporters now expecting a big result as well as some fringe players to be handed starts from Guardiola.

After all, City have very little to play for, and the fixture gives the Manchester giants a rare chance to heavily rotate the side against a team that will be on the backfoot from the start.

Here’s what some City fans had to say on Twitter about Leipzig parting ways with Marsch…
