Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on reported Tottenham Hotspur target Antonio Rudiger.
The German has been the centre of a lot of speculation as of late as his Chelsea contract enters its final few months.
The defender has cemented himself as one of the Premier League’s top defenders since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge, and inevitably, he’s attracted interest from elsewhere.
However, despite a number of clubs, including Tottenham, looking at Rudiger, Chelsea are still trying to keep hold of the centre-half.
Unfortunately for the Blues, Romano is led to believe there’s a 50% chance of Rudiger leaving on a free transfer this summer.
What’s been said?
“Yes, I will start with Rudiger, we can say that the situation with Toni Rudiger is still open. It’s true that Chelsea are still pushing to extend his contract, but at the same point nothing has been agreed yet, so the situation is open with Rudiger. It’s 50/50 for Rudiger to stay or to leave the club, but Chelsea are still trying to keep him at the club,” Romano said.

Spurs on alert
If there is a 50% chance of Rudiger leaving Chelsea on a free, then Tottenham have to be on alert.
Spurs have a great chance of landing Rudiger. They’re in the same city, they have a manager he knows well and they have plenty of cash to splash, but if he does become available, they have to act quickly because there will be plenty of teams in this race.
This certainly seems to be a situation to keep an eye on.
