Tony Adams has claimed that if Arsenal can get Takehiro Tomiyasu back into the starting XI, then he thinks the club can get fourth, as he told Premier League Productions (23/04/22 at 2:40 pm).
On Saturday, Arsenal recorded a 3-1 win over Manchester United, with Cedric Soares starting at right-back and Adams claiming that the Portugal star ’scares the life out of me’.
Whilst Arsenal recorded a valuable three points in the race to finish in the Premier League’s top-four, the two fullbacks, who are back-ups under Mikel Arteta, didn’t have the best of games from a defensive standpoint.
Luckily for the Gunners, someone like Tomiyasu is back in action, as he did come off the bench yesterday.
Adams is delighted to see him back and pointed out that if he can return to the XI, then he feels Champions League football could return to the Emirates.
“Tommy came back right at the end there, which is great because I am still scared regarding, Cedric,” said Adams. “He scares the life out of me.
“So, it’s good to see Tommy back in action. If we can get him back. A little bit solid. Then, I think we have got fourth.”
That’s one area of the pitch Arsenal fans can stop worrying about because Tomiyasu has returned just at the right time.
Whilst Kieran Tierney looks to be out for the rest of the season, ahead of a number of big games, including the north London derby, Arsenal’s defence might just get the injection of quality it needs.
From an attacking sense, the Gunners have found their feet again, but those vulnerabilities in defence have still been showcasing themselves recently.
Either way, all eyes will be on that all-important showdown against Tottenham next month, which might just decide who finishes fourth.
