West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to react after Michail Antonio and Said Benrahma changed their shirt numbers.

What’s the story?

Well, there have been no new arrivals at the London Stadium yet, but three West Ham players have changed their shirt numbers.

Pablo Fornals recently took the No.8 shirt, following Felipe Anderson’s return to Lazio.

Now, Benrahma has taken the No.22 shirt after Sebastien Haller left to join Ajax.

The Algerian had previously worn No.9. However, he revealed that the No.22 shirt has a special meaning to him, as it was his late father’s number.

After Benrahma vacated the No.9 shirt, Antonio wasted no time at all in ditching his No.30 jersey for it.

Now, the Hammers have a proper No.9 up front.

Ever since his £7m arrival from Nottingham Forest, Antonio has played all over the pitch.

As Transfermarkt shows, the 31-year-old has literally played everywhere but centre-back, in the centre of midfield and in goal for the Irons.

Antonio has played as a left-back, right-back, left-winger, right-winger, attacking midfielder and centre-forward for the east Londoners.

Now, his form up front has been rewarded with the No.9 shirt, which should signify his transformation into a striker.

Let’s see how the West Ham fans on Twitter reacted to the news…
