Herculez Gomez praised Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner for the work he has done at the Qatar World Cup so far, including during USA’s crucial 1-0 win over Iran on Tuesday.
The former USA international stated ‘we aren’t going to talk about Matt Turner’ because of how well he has been protected by his teammates in front of him and how he has done his job when called upon.
Leading up to Qatar, there was a huge debate as to who Gregg Berhalter will pick as his number one.

After his summer move from the MLS to the Premier League, Turner, who is playing a back-up role to Aaron Ramsdale, was the one picked and he hasn’t let his country down, as he was praised by the American media on ESPN.
“How many times have we mentioned Matt Turner,” asked Gomez to which his fellow pundit respond ‘not a lot’.
Gomez then added: “There is a reason for that and it’s not just the defensive line. Was he? (Busy in moments against Iran). But was he busy?
“Almost doesn’t cut it in life. That’s not going to get you everything you want. What I am trying to tell you is that Matt Turner wasn’t busy because of the guys in front of him. I am not talking about the backline. This is an effort of the whole team.
“The full ten of you, plus the goalkeeper. He’s not been busy all tournament because of the front line and how they press. The midfield and how they are, tremendous in transition. Offence and defence – that’s what makes Matt Turner, not a discussion for us. We aren’t going to talk about Matt Turner. They are so difficult to beat right now.”

TWO CLEAN SHEETS FOR TURNER
Three games and two clean sheets for the Arsenal man at the World Cup.
Whilst he isn’t saving shot after shot, as he proved against England and Iran, he is commanding his box.
Any time the opposition tries to attack it, he collects that ball, snuffs out the danger and calms the situation down.
In truth, during the minutes he has played for the Gunners, including pre-season, he hasn’t shown much of that, but all of this bodes well for the player.
