Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has told the club’s official website that he wants William Saliba to sign a new deal.

Arteta has said that he is very happy with how Saliba, who was in the France squad for the 2022 Qatar World Cup, has played for Arsenal so far this season.

The Arsenal boss has said that he wants to keep the £27 million France international centre-back (Goal), and hopes that the club’s Sporting Director Edu is able to get everything sorted.

The 21-year-old is under contract at Arsenal until the summer of 2024, with the North London club having the option to extend it by a year.

Arteta said about Saliba’s contract: “We have a few of those, where we are willing to extend the contract. William is one of them.

“In the months he’s been with us, he’s shown the quality and the personality he has to play at the level that we want.

“We are trying to do that because we know that he can be a really important part of our plans.”

When asked if contract talks are progressing well, Arteta said: “I hope so.

“That’s more for Edu and the board to discuss with him, but what I know is the player is really happy, the player wants to be here – and that’s the main thing.”

Arsenal stay

In our opinion, Arsenal should do their utmost to keep William Saliba for the long term.

And we think that they will.

Saliba is playing regularly for Arsenal now and has established himself as a key figure at the back.

The 21-year-old centre-back can only improve and get better in the coming years.

And Arsenal could win the Premier League title this season.
