Gabriel Martinelli has admitted that he wants to sign a new contract with Arsenal after inspiring the Gunners to a 3-2 win against Liverpool on Sunday.

Speaking to the Athletic, the Brazilian international revealed that talks are ongoing behind the scenes that could see Martinelli sign a new long-term contract with Arsenal, with the winger’s current deal set to expire in 2024, with the club holding an option to trigger an extension by an extra year.

Martinelli has been one of Arsenal’s best players this season and has played a crucial role in the Gunners’ sensational start to the new campaign. Mikel Arteta’s side sit top of the Premier League following their best start to a term in over 15 years.

Alongside fellow youngsters Bukayo Saka and William Saliba, Martinelli is regarded by many as one of the best talents in the Premier League and a player who could lead Arsenal for many years to come, especially if the 21-year-old signs a new contract with the north London side.

Indeed, Martinelli committing to a new contract would be massive for Arsenal and their long-term plans to return to the UEFA Champions League and win the Premier League. And according to the attacker himself, he wants to stay with the Emirates Stadium outfit.

Martinelli said post-match against Liverpool after being asked if he wanted to pen a new contract with Arsenal: “Of course, I want to stay. We are talking. Let’s see what is going to happen. But I want to stay, of course.”

After all, Martinelli has been one of the most dangerous wingers in the Premier League this season despite his young age, and Arsenal keeping the attacker at the club for the upcoming years would be huge for Arteta’s long-term plans for the Gunners, who seem to be on the right path to glory.
