Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta has admitted that he is confident over Milan Skriniar signing a new contract with the club, with the defender reportedly wanted by the likes of Tottenham ahead of the January transfer window.

Speaking to the press via Fabrizio Romano, the UEFA Champions League executive revealed that he is optimistic over Skriniar signing a new deal with Inter, with the centre-back’s current contract with the Nerazzurri set to expire at the end of this season.

Skriniar was subject to a £70m bid from PSG as reported by L’Equipe at the end of the summer window, however, the transfer never went through as the defender remained in Lombardy. Yet January is lining up to be quite the month for the Serie A superstar.

Whilst Marotta is confident that Skriniar will sign a new contract, little work seems to be happening behind the scenes to tie the defender down to fresh terms, which will be music to the ears of Tottenham, who have long been linked with a move for the centre-back, who won the Serie A title under Antonio Conte’s tenure at the San Siro.

Indeed, interest is high in Skriniar with Tottenham facing competition from the aforementioned PSG and also FC Barcelona, yet this latest update could prove to be the most devastating update of all should the defender decide to sign a new contract with Inter against all the odds.

Skriniar looked set to leave Inter in 2023 with the defender’s contract inching closer to its expiration date next summer. However, these latest comments from Marotta could indicate that a deal to keep the centre-back at the San Siro is gaining pace, and Tottenham should be furious.

After all, the north London side could do with another world-class centre-back to add to their defensive ranks, and Skriniar would have been nothing short of perfect for Conte’s system, with the pair working wonders together during their time with Inter.
