Newcastle United’s proposed takeover could be coming to a crashing end.

According to reports from Sky Sports, Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has pulled the plug on talks with the PCP Partners over a takeover of the club.
Ashley took over at St. James’ Park way back in 2007, and has been far from a popular figure on Tyneside as a result of his management of the Magpies.
Ashley has not only overseen two relegations from the Premier League, but has also been criticised for some bizarre managerial decisions and failing to invest the money required to make Newcastle a force again.

Three months ago today, Ashley announced the news that many Newcastle fans were begging for, as he confirmed on the club’s official website that the club was up for sale and he would be leaving.
Talks with Amanda Staveley and the PCP Partners have been ongoing for weeks now, and after rejecting one bid, Ashley now appears to have pulled the plug on a deal.
Sky Sports report that talks with Staveley and the PCP Partners are now over, with Ashley seemingly prepared to stay at St. James’ Park until he receives a suitable offer for the club.

Unsurprisingly, fans have not reacted well to the news, questioning just why Ashley wants to cling onto the club whilst also wondering just how serious Staveley was about buying the club in the first place.
Others predict that manager Rafael Benitez may now walk away from the job after this latest development, with many fans saying they wouldn’t even blame him for going due to Ashley’s lack of financial support over the years, whilst one fan even asked Vince McMahon if he would be interested in taking over the club…
