Eddie Howe’s appointment has been lauded by a lot of Newcastle United fans.
But some of the same supporters aren’t crazy about Howe’s staff-bonding idea on Thursday.
According to The Telegraph, Howe brought a number of his backroom staff at Newcastle to the pub in the city yesterday afternoon.
The Magpies are 19th in the Premier League table, five points adrift of safety as of right now.
Even worse, Howe inherits a squad of players that haven’t won any of their 11 Premier League games yet this season.
Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie tweeted that a bonding session for the players is also in the works.
And it’s fair to say that the idea has divided opinion among Newcastle fans.
Here’s how some are reacting on Twitter:
Not a big deal
For the next six or seven months, everybody at Newcastle needs to pull together in the same direction.
And in fairness to Howe, you can’t fault his rationale in believing that off-the-field bonding could do some good.
Let’s be honest, Newcastle, the only Premier League side yet to win a game this season, could hardly be any worse.
So where’s the harm in improving morale?
There’s a laundry list of things that has to change at United as far as on-the-pitch matters go.
And if Howe believes that a short time away from football – during an international break, remember – is beneficial for the squad then that assessment has to be trusted.
