Man City claimed a huge 1-0 win over Premier League rivals Chelsea this weekend, and it was in large part to the defence that Pep Guardiola’s side walked away from west London with all three points.

Aymeric Laporte and Ruben Dias retained their positions at the base of the XI as the defensive duo impressed once again against the UEFA Champions League holders.

Aside from some adventurous runs from Timo Werner, the Man City centre-backs were excellent in defence and kept Chelsea at bay with ease and calmness.

It was a huge result as Gabriel Jesus’ sole goal of the afternoon shot City back up the table. With Manchester United losing and Liverpool dropping points, the title race has already taken an interesting twist just six games into the season.

And the reemergence of Laporte has been a surprising narrative for City. The Spanish international was second-choice centre-back last season with John Stones often the player to parter Dias in the defence.

However, despite an outstanding Euros, Stones has dropped down to the bench again. Yet Laporte’s display for Man City against Chelsea more than warranted this decision.

And on social media, City fans were buzzing with what the 27-year-old star posted to his official Twitter account following the full-time whistle at Stamford Bridge.

Here’s what some Man City supporters had to say on Twitter about Laporte’s post after the 1-0 win over Chelsea…
