Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has told The Chronicle that the Magpies are preparing for the January transfer window, monitoring players.
Newcastle have made a decent start to their Premier League return, claiming ten points from seven games, with three wins, a draw and three defeats.
Benitez’s men claimed a 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, and have now lost just once in the last five games as they settle down in the Premier League.
Benitez was a somewhat frustrated figure over the summer, as he felt he didn’t receive the necessary financial backing from owner Mike Ashley to bring in the players he wanted.
Newcastle landed Florian Lejeune, Javier Manquillo, Mikel Merino, Christian Atsu, Jacob Murphy and Joselu, but Benitez also missed out on a number of targets in a disappointing transfer window.
If Newcastle are hovering around midtable – as they are now – then manager Benitez will be looking for considerable reinforcements to boost his squad and really kick on to the next level.
The summer transfer window only closed just over a month ago, but many are already looking to the January transfer window – and manager Benitez has been asked about his plans.
Benitez has told The Chronicle that Newcastle are monitoring players ahead of possible January moves, admitting that the Magpies are working hard to line up targets once the transfer window re-opens.
“Are we working for the January transfer window? Yes, we are already working on that,” Benitez said. “Like the majority of the teams, we are monitoring players and that is the main thing,” he added.
