Liverpool have received more bad news, ahead of their Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid next week.
The Reds dropped two big points in the Premier League on Saturday by surrendering a two-goal lead in their visit of Brighton & Hove Albion to Anfield.
Injury-prone midfielder Naby Keita lasted only 15 minutes in that one, pulling up with a hamstring problem.
And Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp confirmed via their official website that the Guinea international is likely to miss Wednesday’s visit of Atletico.
With Klopp already missing a host of influential midfielders – like Fabinho, Harvey Elliott and Thiago – this comes at a rotten time for the German manager.
Here’s how some Liverpool fans reacted to this development on Twitter:
Gutting
This is all the more devastating for fans – and of course Keita himself – because the player is in a fine vein of form right now.
He scored in the win at Old Trafford eight days ago, a game in which he was stretchered off in, and also netted a brilliant goal in the reverse fixture in Madrid last month.
With Georginio Wijnaldum gone and Thiago sidelined, Keita has been filling that midfield void in a wonderful way in recent weeks.
But unfortunately for Liverpool, they’ll have to plod along without him for now.
