Mauricio Pochettino’s return to Tottenham Hotspur grew a little more realistic earlier this week.
That’s because the Argentine is reported to have told Paris Saint-Germain that he wants to leave the club to re-sign for Spurs.
According to The Athletic, Tottenham have already held talks with Pochettino about bringing him back to North London.
The 49-year-old only joined the French giants in January of this year.
And although Frank Leboeuf has described it as a ‘betrayal’ that he wants to leave so soon, the World Cup-winning Frenchman has suggested there was hierarchy issues at Parc des Princes.
He told ESPN: “It’s a big knife…..I would say a betrayal from Pochettino willing to leave just months after signing from Paris Saint-Germain. The guy wants to leave. The big question is why he wants to leave. We all know there’s a problem with the hierarchy in Paris Saint-Germain.”
Do Tottenham need him?
In a word, yes.
The Lilywhites sacked Jose Mourinho in April and considering it’s now June, that sums up how Daniel Levy’s search has been going.
The likes of Brendan Rodgers and Julian Nagelsmann have turned down Levy.
And although people like Antonio Conte remain linked and available, it seems unlikely that a name like that will be going to Tottenham amid doubt over Harry Kane’s future in North London.
But Pochettino still knows a lot of these Spurs players and even without Kane, he’ll fancy his chances of picking up where he left off in November of 2019.
