The Baggies defender conceded a penalty in Saturday’s Championship playoff semi-final at Villa Park.

West Bromwich Albion were on course for victory in their Championship playoff semi-final first leg away at Aston Villa only for things to go horribly wrong in the second half.
The visitors got off to a great start and made the most of Glenn Whelan’s error at the back, which allowed Dwight Gayle to claim the ball, run at goal and rifle home past Jed Steer in the 16th minute.
Although Albion sought to manage the game, they were pegged back in the 75th minute when Conor Hourihane hammered an effort home from the edge of the area and then fell behind through Tammy Abraham’s penalty four minutes later.
Just to rub salt in the wounds, top scorer Gayle was dismissed with just two minutes to go for a second yellow card, which means he will miss Tuesday’s second leg at The Hawthorns and make the job harder for James Shan’s side.
There was much for the Baggies faithful to talk about after the 2-1 defeat and one talking point was Gibbs’ display, with some fans making their feelings known on Twitter:
Kieran Gibbs joined West Brom from Arsenal in 2017 for a reported £6.75million fee, is currently valued by Transfermarkt at £7.2million, and has made 37 Championship appearances this season including Saturday.
