Rangers defender David Bates is in the final months of his contract at Ibrox.
Rangers centre-back David Bates is currently in the final months of his current contract at Ibrox and is reportedly attracting interest from English side Sunderland – but Gers fans have urged their club to hand the youngster a new deal.
The 21-year-old starred for the Gers on Sunday, as Graeme Murty’s side earned a narrow 2-1 win in which winger Daniel Candeias and new signing Jason Cummings found the back of the net.
Murty was given a late concern by substitute David N’Gog, as the former Liverpool striker scored a late penalty for Owen Coyle’s side, but the Gers held on to return to second place in the Scottish Premiership table.
Bates, who made just his 16th senior appearance for Rangers, looked composed and assured at the back and way beyond his years alongside Russell Martin. However, his current deal expires in May.
Prior to the match, Rangers fans urged Bates to put pen to paper on a new deal despite Sunderland reportedly looking to land the young centre-back this month.
One fan even urged him to sign a new deal because he, alongside Ross McCrorie, is “the spine of the famous Glasgow Rangers.”
