Jordan Amavi reveals two reasons for Aston Villa failure

Jordan Amavi left Aston Villa in the summer to join French giants Marseille.

Jordan Amavi has told Olympique de Marseille’s official website that he struggled at Aston Villa for two separate reasons before jumping ship in the summer.

The 23-year-old left the Midlands giants in August, joining Marseille on a season-long loan with an option to complete the deal permanently at the end of the temporary move.

The Frenchman failed to gain any kind of regular game time during the 2016-17 campaign, especially after Villa boss Steve Bruce completed the signing of Wales international Neil Taylor from Swansea City in January 2017.

Now enjoying life in his home country with Marseille, former Nice left-back Amavi claimed there were two reasons why he struggled to prove his worth at Villa Park after Tim Sherwood splashed out a reported £10million to sign him in July 2015.

“I’ve come a long way. I struggled a bit at Aston Villa. I needed time to get playing time and confidence,” Amavi said. “That’s what I experience at Marseille and that’s showing on the pitch.”

Making 11 appearances this season, Amavi has helped Marseille win six matches in all competitions as well as helping the Ligue 1 outfit keep four clean sheets. Even going forward, the Villa speed machine has provided two assists.

The 10-time France Under-21 international still has three years remaining on his current contract at Villa Park, and it remains to be seen if he will rejoin the Midlands outfit at the end of his loan.
