Everton made an influx of signings in the summer and Sam Allardyce’s squad is bloated to say the least.
Everton manager Sam Allardyce has inherited a squad that needs major work in January, after Ronald Koeman brought an influx of new players to Goodison Park without letting many go.
Allardyce will want to add his own players to the squad next month and he will only be able to do that if he sells first. Here, we look at five expendable players the Toffees need to offload.
Joel Robles
The back-up goalkeeper is in the final year of his contract and has hardly filled the Toffees fans with confidence. If Everton can offload the Spaniard and bring in a price for his head in January, they should, rather than letting him go for nothing in the summer.
Kevin Mirallas
A poor attitude can be attributed to a lack of game time, but Belgium international Mirallas’ has hardly shown the quality he was capable of when first signing for the Toffees. Way down the pecking order, he should be thrown on the scrapheap.
Sandro Ramirez
Simply not good enough. The Spaniard has been given time to make an impression but with Everton likely to be after a striker in the window, as well as the rise of Oumar Niasse and Dom Calvert-Lewin, Ramirez should be sold.
James McCarthy
Do Everton fans even remember the midfielder anymore? McCarthy has made one appearance this season in the Carabao Cup, while Tom Davies, Beni Baningime, Idrissa Gueye, Morgan Schneiderlin and Mo Besic are above him in the pecking order.
Ademola Lookman
The youngster should be sent on loan as the return of Yannick Bolasie from injury will push him down the pecking order behind Aaron Lennon, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Nikola Vlasic. Although he has played in 15 games this season, a loan will be crucial in his development, and see him return a stronger player.
