According to The Mirror, Everton are weighing up a shock £30 million move for Arsenal attacker Danny Welbeck.
The English outlet reports that Everton boss Ronald Koeman will launch a big-money bid for the England international if they cannot lure his Arsenal team-mate Olivier Giroud away from the Emirates.
It is a hell of a lot of money for a player who, let’s be honest, hasn’t set the Premier League alight since joining the Gunners from Manchester United in 2014.
The Toffees fans might have something to say about such a move, but one man who will surely back the transfer is his former Manchester United team-mate Wayne Rooney.
The 26-year-old spent six years with Rooney at Old Trafford, and the recently-signed Everton hero, in his second stint at the club, has previously described Welbeck as a “fantastic” player.
Speaking to The Football Association’s official website in 2014, the 32-year-old said: “He’s shown he’s a top forward and he’s getting better. The more games he plays he’s getting better.
“He’s scoring goals for England, for Arsenal and he deserves all the credit he gets because he’s a fantastic football player.”
Rooney seems to be on side for a Welbeck arrival, but the fans, as mentioned, could be a different story. The striker, who has spent most of his Arsenal career on the wing, has 10 goals in 52 Premier League games for the North Londoners in what’s been an injury-hit few years.
