Wayne Rooney has spoken highly of his former Manchester United teammate Anthony Martial to talkSPORT amid speculation that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing the 22-year-old forward in the summer transfer window.

Rooney, who left Everton for DC United in Major League Soccer in the summer transfer window, played with Martial at United from 2015 until 2017.

The 32-year-old former England international, who can operate as a forward or as an an attacking midfielder, has spoken highly of the 22-year-old France international.

According to The Daily Mail, Tottenham, Chelsea and Bayern Munich all are interested in signing the forward in the summer transfer window.

Rooney has praised Martial and told talkSPORT: “I think Martial, ability-wise, is incredible. But I think it’s how do you get the best out of him?

“Knowing Anthony the way I know him I think if you can get the best out of him, he’s up there ability-wise with the best in the league.

“I think sometimes it is difficult to get to know him as a person, as a character because of the way he is. But I think once you do get to know him, you just keep him happy.”

Good signing for Tottenham Hotspur?

Martial is one of the best young forwards in Europe, and although the performances of the Frenchman in recent times have not been great, there is no doubt that the former AS Monaco star has a lot of potential.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has shown how good he is with young players and how he can help them grow, and Martial would flourish under the Argentine.
