Everton defeated Slovakian side MFK Ruzomberok 1-0 in the Europa League qualifying round on Wayne Rooney’s return.
Everton took a slender lead against Slovakian side MFK Ruzomberok in the Europa League third qualifying round tie, thanks to the lone goal from Leighton Baines.
It was a dull game at the Goodison Park and it looked set for a daw, until Baines scored a deflected effort from long distance.
All eyes were on Wayne Rooney who made his return to Goodison Park as an Everton player.
Rooney left Everton 13 years ago to join Manchester United for £27 million, according to BBC. He has re-joined his boyhood club on a free transfer, a move that caused a lot of debate and discussions.
The England striker may not be the same player he once was when he left Everton, but he is expected to bring his wealth of experience to the side.
Rooney had a good chance in the first half but couldn’t get his power behind the shot. In the second half, he operated behind Sandro, and greatly improved thereafter.
The 31-year-old shared his delight of returning to Goodison Park, saying it felt “fantastic”.
