Emi Buendia has told Alex Moreno on his Instagram story that he is ‘already close’ to making a return to action for Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.

The Aston Villa left-back has been out of action since the back end of last season when he suffered a major hamstring injury away at Liverpool.

But, as Emi Buendia posted via his Instagram story on Monday, Villa fans might now get to see their January signing back on the field during the coming weeks.

Alex Moreno was probably Villa’s best player from January onwards last season, as Unai Emery guided the club from a relegation battle to European football.

When the Spanish star moved to the Midlands, he dethroned Lucas Digne from the starting spot, with talk of the Frenchman possibly leaving this summer.

In the end, he stayed put and it could be argued that he has been Villa’s best player during these early few weeks of the new season.

Buendia’s message about Moreno’s injury

“Way to go, kid,” said Buendia. “You’re already close.”

Moreno boosts deflated squad

Villa have been hit with some serious injuries this season, no more so to Buendia himself, with Tyrone Mings also set to be out of action for the rest of the campaign.

Added to that, Moreno has also been on the sidelines since the start of the season, along with Jacob Ramsey, but the duo’s return, or hopeful return after the international break, will boost a squad that needs picking up a little bit.

European football will start to kick in during these coming months, so this Villa squad is going to be tested and stretched to the limit.
